River Stories - Bunya to the Bay
'River Stories - Bunya to the Bay' is a partnership project between the State Library of Queensland and the Riverfestival.
In association with Education Queenslands' Outdoor and Environmental Education Centres, Riverfestival presented Bunya to the Bay, a major new project as part of the 2006 festival program.
At its core, Bunya to the Bay was an environmental adventure for 26 intrepid secondary school students who hiked, cycled, canoed and siled for 16 days from the source of the Brisbane River in the Bunya Mountains to the bay at Fort Lytton. In their quest to answer 'What is the future of our waterways?', these eco-explorers documented their observations as they studied the river's plant and aquatic life and investigated land and water usage across the river and catchment.
Through the real life learning experience of exploring the full length of the Brisbane River, this project delivered innovative educational outcomes, diverse community engagement and insights for the community about the complex issues surrounding water management.
River Stories - Bunya to the Bay worked with eight participants to produce these digital stories - their stories of the journey. These stories will form part of the State Library's "Just Add Water" exhibition in September 2007.
